Our Motivation
Throughout her career Strix Scientific’s Founder, Melanie Tomczak, has focused on one problem: getting scientific and technological discoveries out of the lab and into the field as deployable platforms. Too many promising technologies stall in that gap, and she started Strix Scientific to help teams cross it.
Dr. Tomczak’s background spans biotechnology, biochemistry, materials, nanotechnology, real-time sensing, additive manufacturing, and technologies for austere environments, along with data analytics and AI/ML to accelerate development. That breadth allows her to connect ideas across disciplines and see practical paths to deployment.
Melanie has worked with and received funding from the Air Force, Navy, Army, DARPA, NSF, EPA, USDA, DTRA, DOE, and NIH, as well as private funders, across everything from SBIR and STTR grants to large IDIQ contracts. She knows what reviewers look for and how to shape a project to match a funder’s priorities.
